Magazine Insider: Sesame Magazine

An online Australian publication, Sesame Magazine is so achingly beautiful I desperately wish it were a print magazine. I know I know, paper printing is very bad for the environment and our forests but if all beautiful magazines were printed on recycled paper or on paper made specifically from plantation forests then all would be good and perfect and wonderful, oui? I just so adore holding a beautiful magazine or book in my hands; smelling the eau de freshly printed pages, tracing the texture and silkyness of a nice paper stock with my fingers…

Ahem, anyway … so I would be justifiably ecstatic if Sesame was in print but for the time being at least it is not and occupies the realm of the world wide web. Sesame Magazine is the lovechild of Melbournian Nadia Barbaro (sheesh, even her name sounds poetic), a stylist and editor.I love it because visually it is breathtaking: as creative director Nadia does the majority of the styling and everything has a jewel-like, magical, dreamy yet sophisticated and strong touch. It highlights Australian fashion and design, and brings together an inspiring medley of creative, behind the scenes talent: makeup artists, photographers, stylists, writers, and, in the latest issue, dancers. Have a peek to see Juliet Burnett, Australian Ballet star, in all her grace. The Bathing Beauty spread, featuring Ms Julia,  is my favourite from the current issue – though that may have something to do with my documented obsession with all things ballerina.

And have a look here for a really interesting interview with Nadia by Design Files editor Lucy Feagins.

Sesame Magazine is published roughly five times a year. I highly recommend you join the mailing list. In the meantime I am just holding back from kissing the computer screen in total adoration…
