Christmas breakfast

I recently wrote about my Christmas Eve breakfast, held on my sunny balcony on a hot but breezy summer morning. I have promised a few people photos of the table setting; unfortunately I was silly and did not take photos of the table before people arrived, food was consumed and the table became happily, contentedly messy. I did however re-set the table for a quiet Christmas morning breakfast with my husband so if you are interested please do take a peek at the photos below.

As you can see the food is different to what I offered in my Christmas Eve breakfast. I wanted Christmas morning breakfast to be light (so we could fit a big Christmas lunch in) but still special and indulgent. So for Christmas Day I plated (on my favourite vintage chinaware):

  • Cold meats: prosciutto; chicken drumsticks marinated in honey, lime and soy; turkey and ham slices.
  • Summer fruits: grapes, apricots, cantaloupe.
  • Poached peaches (left over from Christmas Eve): simmered in raw sugar, cinnamon quills, and a couple of mint leaves added at the end to counterbalance the sweet richness of the sugar and cinnamon syrup.
  • Fresh wholemeal bread.
  • Coffee and champagne – of course!
