I have always been a fan of Michael Leunig’s whimsical cartoon characters. I grew up following their philosophical adventures in The Age newspaper – to me Leunig is as Melbourne as the Yarra River and yellow brick Flinders Street Station.
So imagine my joy when I discovered his son Gus Leunig is also an artist – and a very good one it seems. I absolutely love his work. It espouses a similar lyrical, slightly fantastical quality but is (mostly) less figurative than the work by his father. I can very happily envision something by Gus on my wall …

I love these paintings – and never realised Leunig had an artist son! I too read Leunig in The Age. xo

I cannot get The Age easily now that I live interstate but I always get someone to buy me the one with the annual Leunig calender. Not sure if it is offered this year though.
