Wedding Inspiration: from English ivory to ethereal emerald

This über elegant English country wedding is a picture of genteel stylishness. What I particularly like is the bride Phillippa’s reception transformation – her reception/honeymoon dress is easily as  formal and exquisite as her wedding gown. I love the cool emerald and topaz sheens with the soft stonework of the manor and pale English sunlight.

  • Reception or honeymoon outfits are de rigueur once again. Traditionally they are supposed to be a little more casual or comfortable than the wedding gown as they are intended to be travelled in – as the bride and groom depart the reception for their honeymoon. However a reception outfit should still be super special, as this one attests! For a similar study in embellished intricacy, look at Jenny Packham, Collette Dinnigan, Joanna Johnson.
  • The style here is a curious mix of upper-class elegance and relaxed English country house: the function is hosted inside a looming manor yet the reception decor is uncomplicated and natural. Choose settings with lots of natural light and remember in most reception venues you can style the table settings yourself.
  • The bride and groom gave guests paper-wrapped pastries and cakes which doubled as bonbonerie and pre-reception canapes in the gardens.
  • For a similarly ornate headpiece look through vintage and antique stores or consult milliners. Many bridal stores also carry head pieces. Have a peek here, here and here  for some (smaller) Etsy examples; I also love this one from Jenny Packham.
