Hello readers!
Because I am a writer I spend a lot of time at a desk. And because I am a creative sort my desk could be described as the opposite to minimal. It houses a lot of books and magazines. There are papers and notebooks and pens everywhere. There is a bottle of water, a stack of business cards, my cherished turquoise Tiffany & Co. paper cup (the day Perth welcomed its first Tiffany & Co store they gave out hot chocolates in monogrammed paper cups – how cute!) and an assortment of artful objects. And of course, an assortment of beauty paraphernalia; I often joke my desk is more of a beauty parlour than a workspace! A quick survey of my desk revealed:
Perfume: My daily perfume travels with me in my handbag and my cherished, special event perfumes live on my bedroom dresser. But my desk is home to a small collection of ‘sometimes’ perfumes; the ones I reach for when I feel like something different, or if I forgot to spritz that morning. Stella Sheer by Stella McCartney and Paris Eau Printemps by Yves Saint Laurent are the current tenants.
Hand cream: After washing my hands or on cold or dry days I like to coat my digits in the satisfyingly thick Nivea Creme. I have always loved the scent too.
Lip balm: I suspect I am not alone with my desk lip balm collection – sometimes I think they breed and multiply when I’m not looking. At the moment I can spy a pretty tin of Smith’s Rosebud Salve, a tube of Lucas Paw Paw Ointment, a minty Burt’s Bees chapstick and tinted Lanolips Lip Ointment in Sunshine.
Hand sanitiser: I am not a germaphobe but I do like to keep a bottle of Aqium Gel handy. It is very gentle on the skin.
Glasses lens cleaner: My Dolce & Gabanna reading spectacles often need a squirt of Opti-Clean Anti-Static Anti-Fog Lens Cleaner.
Pearly whites: I often have after-work functions so I always have a tube of Go Smile toothpaste on hand. I don’t normally indulge in posh toothpastes but I love the slightly lemony mint flavour of their AM toothpaste.
Makeup: This does not live on my desk permanently but is a daily visitor by way of my little leather Kerin English purse. I usually pack my Chanel Mat Lumiere compact powder for touch-ups, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat to erase computer-face for after work drinks or a function, some cotton buds to remove any smudged mascara or eyeliner, and a couple of lip colours: at the moment I have Nars Lip Gloss in Sweet Revenge and Chanel Rouge Allure in Delicieuse.
Baby wipes: I have a big tub which I sue to santise my desktop, phone and keyboard, to spot clean any sudden marks (ahem, spilled chocolate crumbs or coffee) from my clothes, to wipe my hands or to generally freshen my skin.
Sugar-free mints and chewing gum: I prefer Eclipse. They are a must for meetings and after eating or drinking coffee or tea!
What is your home or office desk like? Is it tidy and organised or creatively chaotic? And more importantly, what beauty treats does it hide?

Great Article. I really love the Go Smile PM toothpaste as it tastes like musk lollies. My desk is chaotic to say the least. I have a few empty beauty products that I need to review & a huge Voluspa handcream with a pump that is perect for the desk.
