Hello! I’m back this week and wanted to share a beautiful little book shop I discovered while in Melbourne – The Little Book Room. The Little Book Room is dedicated to little people – it sells classic, rare, unusual and interesting children’s and young adult books. I can’t believe I lived in Melbourne for most of my life and did not know this store existed! I was thrilled by the selection and stocked up on a couple of books for baby girl. My husband made the sale assistant laugh because he could not stop squealing in delight every time he saw a cool book, or a classic from his own childhood. Here are just a few of the books I saw and loved – I could list so many more!
Lin Yi’s Lantern by Brenda Williams Benjamin Lacombe. A beautiful book based on a traditional Chinese story.
The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan. Australian Tan an is an incredible artist and his books appeal to grown-ups as much as little ones. This is the book that led to Tan’s Oscar-winning animated film.
Snugglepot and Cuddlepie Presents by May Gibbs. This range of young children’s board books is based on a classic duo of Australian children’s literature – gum nut babies Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. Books include first words, counting, colours and opposites. These books are not online but if you contact the store direct I’m sure they could help you.
The Famous Five and The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton. I was pleased to see my own favourite Enid Blyton stories brand new and still in print here.
The Little Bookroom is located at 5 Degraves Street in Melbourne city and 759 Nicholson Street Carlton North.
